Easter

Posted on

It is always this time of year that makes me a little home sick.  I wish we had family that lived closer so we could celebrate this time of year with them.  We did have a good Easter.  The night before we dyed eggs.  We always do an Easter egg hunt in our back yard for the kids.  I think it takes Corey more time to set it up than for the kids to find all the eggs.  I’m really bad at remembering to take pictures and I forgot to take pictures of the kids all dressed up before church.   After church we had a nice ham dinner.  I think this is one of my favorite holidays.  It helps me remember our Savior and all that he has done for us.  It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the silly things like the Easter bunny and candy but it’s important to really remember what this holiday is all about,  The Savior.

Preston’s Birthday

Posted on

I can’t believe it but my oldest is now nine.  Last Saturday we spent a fun day celebrating.  Every other year we let the kids have a big party.  Preston had one last year so this years birthday was spent just with the family.  Saturday happened to be the nicest day in the week.  We were able to take the family to the green belt and look at the falls and chase the birds.  Preston said that it was his favorite non-party year ever.  We spent most of the day outside.  I had asked Preston what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said he wanted to go to IHOP.  Preston’s favorite thing to eat is pancakes.  He’ll eat them anytime of day.  I think his record is 11 four inch pancakes.  So IHOP is fitting for his birthday.  We opened presents at the restaurant.  Preston really wanted a real tie (no clip ons or zippers).  He also got a journal from his Nammi and Nampa.  He has written in it everyday since.  He also got some money from Grandma and Grandpa T.  So we took him to Toys R Us to pick out a gift.  We walked through the whole store only to find out that he wanted the first thing he saw in the store.  He got a penguin pillow pet.  We then went home and had cake and ice cream.  I find it odd that Preston didn’t ask for a video game or some awesome toys but that he was very practical with what he wanted.  I guess that proves he is growing up.  He is such a sweet boy with a sweet spirit.  We are so blessed to have him in our lives.

Shoshone Falls

Okay I have a lot of blogging to catch up on.  After blogging almost everyday in March I took a hiatus.  So first off at the beginning of the month we went to Twin for a baptism.   On our way home we decided to stop by Shoshone falls.  I don’t know why I have never been here.  I used to have cousins that lived in Twin falls and we would visit them often while I was growing up.  I didn’t know how spectacular the falls were.  Of course, on this day, in early April the falls are quite full which makes for a more spectacular view.  It was raining that day and the falls put out quite a lot of spray so we were thoroughly drenched by the time we left.  It was really fun to see the falls and we didn’t mind standing out in the cold and rain for the view.  Maybe we’ll even stop by and see the falls again on our way through during the summer sometime.

Sophia’s bangs

Posted on

I posted on Facebook yesterday that Levi did us a favor and cut his sister’s bangs. I have a request for pictures and thought I would also tell the story.   I was debating if I should cut bangs on Sophia or not because they kept getting in her face (like the first picture).  When doing her hair I usually pull it to the side like the second picture.  Yesterday while Sophia and Levi were playing in his room her hair was getting in her face.  Levi wanted to be a good brother and thought he would solve her problem for her.  I thought I had confiscated all sissors.  Preston my oldest had some hidden in his closet.  Levi pulled them out and chop chop.  I definitely think had I done the chop chopping I wouldn’t have cut them so short.  Now I guess all we can do is wait for them to grow out.

Fruit Salad for Breakfast

Cantaloupe, Banana, pear, and Strawberries

Okay, I’m not a morning person.  I never have been and probably never will be.  I love to sleep in.  Unfortunately with young kids that isn’t as often as I would like.  Usually I drag myself out of bed and give myself just enough time to get the boys breakfast, make lunches, and see them off to school.  Then I’ll get Sophia dressed and fed.  I usually just have a small bowl of cereal.  Well Wednesday morning was something different.  On Tuesday night, while rummaging in the fridge for something good to eat, I discovered that I still had a cantaloupe hidden in the back of my fridge.  I decided to chop it up and have a small evening snack.  Then I put the rest of it back in the fridge.  After I got the boys off to school in the Morning I found the cantaloupe in the fridge.  A fruit salad sounded pretty tasty to me.  I took the cantaloupe, pear, strawberries, and banana (all from the basket) and mixed them all up.  It was really good.  Sophia ended up with second breakfast (she had oatmeal with her brothers).  I also had a piece of toast on the side.  This was perfect for my morning.  If I get more fruits in the next basket I’ll probably do the same thing.  Cantaloupe is high in vitamins A & C, and is a good source of folate.  Strawberries are high in vitamin C and folate.  Bananas are a good source of vitamin C, fiber, and potassium.  Pears are an excellent source of fiber and a good source of vitamin C.

Mango

First item that I used from the basket was a mango.  I noticed that the mangoes felt fairly ripe.  It was snack time.  I peeled, sliced and divided the mango.  The kids were excited.  This isn’t the first time they have had mangoes, but we don’t have them often.  I was worried that the texture was going to be too much for them.  They devoured it.  It was a great snack and healthy too.  Mangoes are High in Vitamin A and a good source of Vitamin C.  Vitamin A is good for the eyes and skin.  It also helps with your immune system.  Vitamin C helps heal cuts and wounds.  It helps boost your immune system and is good for your teeth and gums (fruits and veggies more matter).

When Preston finished I heard him run down the stairs shouting “I love Mangoes”.  It’s feels good to give them something they love and good for them too.

Sophia turned Two

A week ago my little girl turned 2.  We didn’t do anything special for her birthday just hung out with the family.  She is still oblivious to what a birthday is.  She wasn’t sure what to do with the presents but when we finally got her to rip into them she enjoyed it.  She did know what to do with the candles.  I decided to do cupcakes this year because it was just us.  As soon as I brought over her cupcake with the candles all lit she blew them out.  She didn’t even wait for the end of the song.  I can’t believe my baby is two.  Time flies so fast.  Soon she’ll be off to college.  So I guess I need to enjoy her before she grows up.p5160007p5160011

Sophia Turned 1

A couple of weeks ago Sophia had her first birthday.  It came so quickly and she is growing so fast.  We didn’t do much but had fun anyways.  First we opened presents.  Sophia was more interested in the bags and hangers than the actual gifts but that’s expected from a one year old.  Then we ate cake.  It was nice to do a girly cake for once.  Corey didn’t think she was getting messy enough so he put some frosting on her face.  I don’t think she liked it much so I quickly wiped it off.  Hope you enjoy the pics.sophiapresents12sophiapresents21buterflycake1sophiacake12sophiacake21sophiacake31sophiacake41sophiacake51

Mischievous Sophia

If you ever wonder why you visit a friends home and she is still in her pj’s at noon this is a perfect example of why.  I was getting ready for the day when my 3 year old runs into the bathroom and informs me that my almost one year old is making a mess.  I came out of the bathroom and into the kitchen to find her sitting in the middle of a whole box of sandwhich bags.  She sees me and procedes to hold up the empty box to show me what she has done.  I had to take some pictures to prove that it’s really difficult for any mother with young children to even take a short shower.  What my 3 year old didn’t tell me when he came running into the bathroom was that he was also making a messdownstairs.  He had taken the spray bottle (the one we use for their hair) and completely soaked the TV screen.  How do I keep my eyes on these two?  The second set of pictures is of Sophia finding a not quite so empty box of cereal that her dad left by the garbage to be taken out.  She managed to take the bag out of the box and dump it on the floor and in her lap all within a few minutes of me turning my back (I was making a salad for dinner).  Needless to say I called her dad up to clean the mess up.  He won’t be leaving a box near the garbage anymore. sophiamess01sophiamess02sophiamess03sophiamess04

Sophia’s new thing

Sophia has just started this new thing.  She loves to ride on everything.  One in particular is a Levi’s toy dump truck.  She looked so cute we had to take a picture.  The side veiw is probably the better view because you get the sense of how much bigger she is compared to the truck.  When we tried to take her off she wouldn’t let go and started to cry.
